The Kingdom of Bahrain is a Middle Eastern archipelago in the
Persian Gulf, tucked into a pocket of the sea flanked by Saudi Arabia
and Qatar. It's an oasis of liberalism – or at least Western-friendly
moderation – among the Muslim countries of the region.
Bahrain is the smallest of the independent Persian Gulf states, and
has often had to walk a diplomatic tightrope in relation to its larger
neighbours.
The Kingdom of Bahrain (in Arabic: مملكة البحرين , Mamlakat al-Baḥrayn,
literally Kingdom of the Two Seas) is an island country in the Persian
Gulf.
Bahrain is Arabic for "two seas", referring to the sweet water springs
that can be found within the salty sea surrounding it Bahrain's

COUNTRY DESCRIPTION: The Kingdom of Bahrain is a hereditary kingdom
governed by the Al-Khalifa family. In 2002, the country adopted a new
constitution that reinstated a parliament, which consists of one
elected and one appointed chamber.
Bahrain is a modern, developed country, and tourist
facilities are widely available. The capital is Manama. Read the

information.
Bahrain, officially the Kingdom of Bahrain (Arabic: مملكة البحرين
Mamlakat al-Baḥrayn), is an island country in the Persian Gulf and is
the smallest Arab nation.
Bahrain was the first location in the region in which oil reserves
were discovered.
per capita GDP of $25,300 in 2006, Bahrain was ranked 35th on a list
of 181 nations.
This wealth has been invested in free education and free health care,
resulting in relatively high literacy and life expectancy.
Though the official religion is Islam, Bahrainis are known for their
religious tolerance.
Bahrain is defined by its relationship with water. Take the country’s
name: ‘Two Seas’ in Arabic, the focus is not the island’s minimal
landmass, but the water that laps its shores.
The new Bahrain Financial Harbour of Manama is
currently rising like Neptune from such reclaimed land, and its proud
buildings, such as the Dual Towers, appear to be holding back the sea.
Of course land reclamation in the Gulf has become the fashion.
Only Bahrain, however, can claim a
truly integral connection between the two: the sweet-water springs
that bubble off-shore helped bring about 4000 years of settlement, the
layers of which are exposed in rich archaeological sites around the
island.
Facing declining oil reserves, Bahrain has turned to petroleum
processing and refining and has transformed itself into an
international banking center.
In early 2011, Bahrain's fractious opposition
sought to ride a rising tide of popular Arab protests to petition for
the redress of popular grievances.

As the Middle East's only island state, Bahrain (مملكة البحرين) is
unique from its fellow Gulf nations for its lush environment. The
Sumerian civilization saw Bahrain as a holy island, as did the
Babylonians.
Bahrain's long past and involvement in Middle East history saw it pass
through Dilmun, Assyrian, Babylonian, Greek, Portugese and Persian
hands before hitting its stride as an independent nation in the 19th
century.
Elsewhere, most Bahrainis stick to a fairly traditional,
conservative way of life.
